Women's History Month is March as officially designated by the U.S. Congress in 1987. The Frontenac Museum will be celebrating this occassion on Sunday, March 15 at 3pm featuring Colleen Kattau.
Colleen bought her first guitar in high school and learned songs of Joni Mitchell and Carole King. In addition to playing guitar, singing and writing her own songs, she plays ukelele, harmonica and djembe (west african hand drum).
Colleen earned a doctorate in Spanish American Language and Culture from Syracuse University and is now a Spanish language professor at SUNY Cortland.
A long time musical activist, Colleen believes in the transformative power of song and all the arts to create a better world. She is a dynamic performer of Latin-influenced progressive eclectic folk music. She stirs listeners with uplifting energy and engages with her collective spirit.
Colleen states that music has always been an important part of social change activism. Examples are the civil rights movement, the women's rights movements, the anti-war protests. She will encourage the audience to sing-along with her, so be prepared with your best vocalization!
Please mark your calendars now. We need to celebrate women for their many varied accomplishments.
This event is supported in part by Commemorate 250 funding provided by the City of Auburn's Historic and Cultural Sites Commission and NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center.
